Design and History of CTDB
*One Line Summary
This describes the internals of CTDB and why CTDB is designed the way it is.
Abstract
CTDB is a clustering layer between Samba and a clustered file system. CTDB is basically a specialized clustered database for Sambas internal IPC-Databases but has evolved into a whole cluster management software for Samba. As such, CTDB is independent of any specific cluster manager. It just takes the cluster file system granted as a black box.
This is meant as a small presentation to complement the discussion “The Unholy Union of Corosync, Pacemaker and CTDB”. The aim is to describe why CTDB was invented and how it evolved over the past 3.5 years since its creation. The design of CTDB will can described in considerable detail.
