multi-card/gpu - can we fix it?

*

One Line Summary

non-traditional multi-card scenarios are appearing in hardware and we need to better place kernel/X.org to deal with these

Abstract

There is a lot of movement in the GPU world to hybrid GPU models, although some developers say this is a workaround for a hw problem, the hw exists and Linux needs to be able to take advantage of it. Current GPU switching systems include AMD’s PowerXpress and NVidia’s Optimus solutions. Also multi-gpu rendering systems like SLI and Crossfire are not currently supported by open-source developers.
