One Line Summary

How we will fix your Free Software Office Suite

Abstract

LibreOffice is the office suite of the future; it also happens to be built round an ancient beast of a codebase that reads, in places, something like a Windows device driver. Come and hear how the exciting transition to a world of beauty and elegance is going.

We will look at the threats to the Free Software ecosystem that poorly managed, corporate dominated, copyright assignment based projects can cause. We’ll look at some f the strains that LibreOffice places on the toolchain, revision-control, the kernel and base system. We will also try to understand the enigma of the failure of component based software engineering.

A development plan will be rambled over, with tips on how you can get your favorite new technology integrate into LibreOffice (should you be so brave), and finally you will be persuaded that this is the best place to make your personal blow for a Free Software office suite that we can all be proud of.
