One Line Summary

This presentation will be of interest to system-administrators, kernel-developers, and any end users wanting to know more about this exciting feature. This presentation is aimed at seeking feedback to enrich the implementation and enhance the feature set.

Abstract

I will describe a VFS feature, that provides the ability to create a virtual file using parts and pieces of existing files. This feature enables the expansion of a file across filesystems, by mapping files on different filesystems into its address space. We have a working prototype of this feature. A patch towards which is already submitted to the VFS community requesting comments. The RFC can be found at http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.file-systems/73179. In this presentation, I will outline the feature and our reference implementation.

He has also contributed patches to file readahead, PCI SRIOV resource assignment and other areas. Ram made presentation at OLS 2004 on Performance Improvement through Readahead optimization, and at OLS 2006 on Shared Subtree.
